Langley Special Needs Group

Fr Bosco Clarke, was Parish Priest of Holy Family from 1984 - 2002.
In 1986 he asked parishioner Teresa Mynett to help him form a special needs group in the parish.
Teresa has been a nurse for those with special needs since 1969 and joined Holy Family Parish in 1985.
The group met once a week and prepared people for sacraments.
1986 was also the first year in which the parish pilgrimage to Lourdes took place.

Since then they have organised regular trips to Lourdes and unfortunately this year will be their last. On Wednesday evening they had a pre trip meeting at Holy Family to talk over the finer details of the trip.

It was at this meeting that Teresa and a group of Canon Clarke’s parishioners sprung a surprise 65th birthday party on him. Lot’s of people had brought specially prepared food and a lovely birthday cake

Canon Clarke also celebrates
40 years of his ordination
to the priesthood this year.

In a short speech he thanked everyone for their kindness and invited everyone to enjoy the evening – which they certainly did!

Teresa writes:-
Canon Bosco had no idea that Wednesday’s meeting was really just a cover so that he could celebrate his 65th. birthday with some of his ‘old’ friends from Langley.
I did set half an hour aside for Lourdes information so it was all timed well. It was also an opportunity for all of our pilgrims to get together prior to the pilgrimage.
As you know Jacob took over the meeting with his wise words about not walking around on the plane, he also has a very close relationship with Canon Bosco and calls him Uncle Bubble to the great amusement of the parishioners in Marlow.
Our group for Lourdes is now 45 strong, we have several very sick and disabled pilgrims but also have a lot of wonderful volunteer helpers.

Pictured on the left are some of over 40 people going to Lourdes on this final pilgrimage.

" . . This year I have come across a DVD - LOOKING BACK 20 YEARS, which is Teresa Mynett's Handicapped Pilgrimages every two years, I have had the privilege to go on these several times so I was delighted, and have bought a copy.
It is very interesting and well constructed record of these  memorable pilgrimages and unfortunately it may be the last. It was made by our good parishioner Raymond Mengham and if anyone is interested I would certainly recommend it. . . "
