Holy Family says Farewell to the Bernardine Community
On Wednesday July 26th,2006, Holy Family Parish said their own simple farewell to the Sisters.
There was evening prayer at 6.00 p.m. in the Convent Chapel, followed by a reception
and a small presentation to the Sisters.
Fr. Kevin writes....
A few words seem so very inadequate when a local Catholic community is trying to give thanks for the way it has been served by the Bernadine Sisters for no less than 109 years.
The Sisters arrived in 1897 and they inspired the building up of a Catholic mission in Slough.
First came St. Ethelbert’s, followed by Our Lady of Peace and St. Anthony's and then our own Holy Family parish, which was founded in 1955. Some years later came the building of Holy Redeemer church in Wexham.
In 2006 the parishes are flourishing, something that would give those pioneering Sisters of the late nineteenth century immense pleasure.
And that is to say nothing of how the Convent School and the Preparatory school have flourished and given countless numbers of young people a fine education, the opportunity to learn about the Lord Jesus and the challenge to follow in his ways.
Sisters, we are very sorry that you are moving away from Slough and yet we admire your bravery.

You have been and you are so much part of our Catholic lives here in Slough that we are not sure what life is going to be like without you.
The fact that you have beep among us for over a hundred years will stand us in good stead, but it’s almost as though now we have to stand on our own two feet.
Sisters, on this occasion Holy Family parish thanks you for your goodness, your faithfulness, your prayerfulness, your wisdom and your support.

We wish you a safe journey and we ask you to be proud of all that you have been able to give us. May God bless you in all the days ahead. Please continue to pray for us,

Fr. Kevin O’Driscoll
