Kevin writes:-
In the early Church people became Christians in a
progressive way. They were first of all known as
"enquirers", then they became
"catechumens" (people preparing) and then they
were chosen or "elected" by the Bishop to go
forward for baptism, confirmation and eucharist.
|
These
sacraments of initiation, as they are known, were
always celebrated at the Easter Vigil

After being enquirers and
then catechumens they are now "the elect
" and will be using the season of Lent to make
their preparations for the Easter Vigil. |
|
"Finally,
we offer all our candidates and catechumens,
who today become the Elect of the diocese for this year
of our Lord, two thousand and five, the prayers and best
wishes of the whole diocese as they enter on this, the
final stage of their journey to the Easter
sacraments."
