The parish church of the Holy Family was built in 1956 to the design of Sebastian Comper, and seats about 280.
The original intention was to have a western gallery for the organ but shortage of funds led to its omission.
The present scheme, due for completion early in 1981, provides this gallery but .in addition greatly enlarges the previously rather cramped circulation space at the west end of the church. Repository, confessional and other ancillaries are moved out into newly built extensions, while the single main west doorway is doubled and a more generous inner screen with three double doors is added beneath the gallery front.
A sculpture of the Holy Family, designed and executed by Andrew Kennedy of Chadlington, Oxfordshire, embellishes the spandrel between the doorways and faces the road.
