Dear Parishioners, Good
news for the Catholics of Langley.
Starting on Sunday next, September 25, Holy Mass
will be celebrated each Sunday morning at 8.30 in
the Mall of the Marish County Primary School. We
are much indebted to the Local Education
Authority for hiring the Hall to us and to the
Headmaster and Caretaker, Mr. West and, Mr.
Johnston respectively, for their friendly
cooperation.
Entrances to the Marish School are from Swabey Rd
and from Spencer Rd. A 458 bus leaving Slough
station at 8.07, picks up at the Convent at about
8.15 and reaches the Harrow at 8.21, The nearest
stop is the request stop after the St. Mary's Rd
stop. Walk on a little, turn right into Spencer
Rd. then left into Ives Rd and that brings you
.round into Swabey Rd, Its less than 5 minutes
walk from the bus stop.
After Mass a 458 bus leaves the Harrow for Slough
at 9,21.
The Mass at the Convent Chapel will be at 10
o'clock in future (instead of 9). I very much
hope this later hour will not dissuade
parishioners from coming to Holy Communion or, if
10 is too late for them, that they will be able
to get to Langley for the 8.30. The hall there is
very large and can take everyone.
This arrangement of Sunday Masses will continue,
please God, until our Church is opened. The Mass
at CoInbrook Hostel will be discontinued after
Sunday, Sept. 18. I should like here to record my
very deep gratitude to the Hostel authorities for
their unfailing cooperation during the 12 years
that Mass has been said there also to the various
residents of the Hostel who at different times
have acted as Sacristans, Servers and Collectors,
etc. I mention especially, Miss Maguire, Bill
Brett, Tom Hackett, Martin Dillon, Bessie Smmett,
Dessie Geraghty and the late Phil Manweiler (R.I.
P.).
We have had 3 red-letter days at the Holy Family
Chapel, On Monday, 29 August I celebrated the
First Mass on the new Estate. About 18
parishioners were present. Denis Conlon arid
Martin Billington served. I offered the Mass for
all the kind people who had helped me to move in.
(See below) On Sunday, 11 September the first
Christening took place in the Chapel. Bernard
Lawrence Joseph Shay was baptised, Then on
Saturday, 17 September I consecrated a Ciborium
at Mass and Reservation of the Blessed Sacrament
began in our little temporary Chapel.
Now that Our loving Saviour is always there in
His Tabernacle I hope that you will come to visit
Him often.
Summer Time ends the 1st weekend of October.
Clocks therefore should be put back one hour on
Saturday night, October 1st. That means an extra
hour of sleep that night.
Diocesan Orphanages Annual. Appeal. This will be
made at both Masses on Sunday, October 2nd by
Father Hammond, Canon Huntings assistant. Please
bring your Shefford Collecting boxes back (full)
that day and receive new (and empty) ones back
'instead from Fr. Hammond. Fr. Hammond will also
be delighted to take back with him to Shefford
any babies' or boys' clothes or toys that you
don't want.
Our good wishes go with Fr,, Denis Roberts who
has gone from St. Ethelbert's to Peterborough to
be assistant to Fr. Paul Taylor there. And we
welcome most cordially Canon Wainwright who has
come from Peterborough to be Chaplain to S.
Bernard's Convent.
1 regret that I am still not on the telephone.
And the telephone authorities hold out no
immediate hope of installing one for me.
Whist Drives. The Union of Catholic Mothers hope
to resume their fortnightly Whist Drives in aid
of the L.C.D.F. on Wednesday .next, Sept. 21 at
7.30 p.m. in St. Bernard's Prep. School (by very
kind permission of Rev. Mother.)
Our Church Site. The diocesan Solicitors have now
received the draft Contract for the purchase of
the site, .from .the L.C.C. legal Dept. They tell
me we may confidently hope that the purchase will
be completed, and the site ours within 6 to 8
weeks from now at a maximum.

I am deeply grateful to the following people who
helped me when I moved into the new presbytery.
Miss Collingridge --.who kept house for me while
Miss Doherty was on holiday; Fr, Hume who, with
his Traveling Mission Van, helped in Removals.
Messrs. Shay, .0' Sullivan and Billlngton, Mr.
& Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Cook, who laid linoleum
and carpets and hung curtains, Messrs. William
& Cyril Luck who fixed all the electrical
fittings, Mrs. Walsh who sustained us with many
cups of tea: and excellent home-made cakes while
we were moving in, Mrs., Whiston who most kindly
did a lot of washing for us. Messer's Shay and
Desmond who erected the altar and tabernacle in
the Chapel; Sheila Howling who on the first
evening cooked our supper by candlelight. This
list is not; exhaustive, and I leave over until
