HOLY WEEK AT HOLY FAMILY, 2005

The Sign of the Cross was made at the beginning of our Maundy Thursday Mass and we were not dismissed until the end of the Easter Vigil.
The Evening Mass of Maundy Thursday, the celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday and the Easter Vigil are all one act of worship.

So we gathered on Maundy Thursday.
Oils blessed in the Cathedral that morning were brought forward and pyxes we use to take Communion to the housebound.
Feet were washed and the jug and towel were placed with the oils.
Once the altar was adorned and the Eucharist celebrated the Blessed Sacrament was added to everything else we had cherished during the Mass.
Good Friday was marked first of all by the children
The children were invited to sit at the front of the Church where Kieran
taught them and the grown-ups how to harmonise and sing a hymn.
Father Kevin then took them on a tour of the Stations of the Cross
explaining the story behind each of the pictures.
Before they went home all the children received a hot cross bun.

This was followed by a walk of witness around Langley, when we
joined with people from other local Christian churches.

Holy Saturday was spent quietly preparing for the Vigil.
Those who are to be baptised at the Easter Vigil this year:
Mariam Collis, Claire Hendy Christina Alexander, Evans Omokaro,
Lorraine McKeown
Those to be received into the church are: Margaret Evans, Debbie Clarkson, Mike Barker, Paul Bartlett & John Kanuki

The parish gathered in great numbers for the event and it was truly powerful.
This is what it meant to be part of the Church – celebrating the resurrection and bringing others to the good news.
A candle was brought into a dark church, the ancient Exsultet was sung, the history of our salvation read, water was brought forward for blessing.

People were baptised
and received and
confirmed, the
Eucharist was shared.

It was truly a night
of great joy.

And then great crowds came on
Easter morning.

There was an atmosphere of joy and for the 9.30 a.m. Mass,
Mary Jones (pictured, right)
very generously made cakes for
us all to share.

A VERY HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE
