"Pray With Our Ears": Holy Family Music Ministry

Holy Family Parish has always had a strong tradition of music and over the years there have been many ways in which this has been expressed and experienced. The tradition of more contemporary Liturgical music was begun with such illustrious names as Sr. Eva, Alan Dewhurst and Mary McErlean amongst others. These people have all moved on to other things but they left behind a legacy, which the Parish has tried to build upon.
At Holy Family we are in the process of developing a Music Ministry, which will compliment all that the Church celebrates.
For those who simply like to listen we hope that we will be able to help people – as the late Cardinal Hume said, ‘Pray with our ears’. For those who like to participate more vocally we hope that we will be able to play a major part in helping us to raise our minds, hearts and voices more effectively in prayer

The present group of people has been built up since Lent 2003 and we hope that we will expand in number and proficiency over the years to come. The church encourages us and indeed expects us to have someone to lead our sung prayer at mass. At present the Music Ministry Group are doing this together whilst we build up our confidence. We hope that in the future our members will lead us in Solo singing of the Psalm and the other important sung responses at our celebration of the Eucharist as well as at celebrations of Baptism, Marriage and at other occasions in our Church’s year.

If we are walking down the street and hear someone singing we can take it that they are happy with themselves and with life!
Why don’t you come along to our practices on a Monday evening at 6.15 p.m. in St Joseph’s Room and show us how happy you are! We would be delighted to welcome people of all ages.
If you play an instrument or simply enjoy singing – then do come along.
