YESTERDAY TODAY TOMORROW
HOLY FAMILY CHURCH
When that first Mass in our parish was said in a house on Trelawney Avenue on 29th August 1955
those attending were already looking forward to their new church being built.

They did not stand still - and so Holy Family church was opened on 2nd February 1957.
Since that time there has not been much significant work done on the building and as we approach the 50th anniversary of the opening of the church it would seem a good time to ponder on what might be done.

I think the first thing we must look at is the entrance to the church. Most people in the parish would agree that the present porch (or “narthex”, as it should be called) is both small and unwelcoming.
Buildings speak of their users and we are not a small and unwelcoming community.

Our architect is proposing a new narthex that will reach out almost to the boundary wall.
The entrances will be to the side of the narthex and they would bring us into a large, pleasant area that gives room for new notice boards, a new repository and toilets.

Furthermore, outside there will be a covered area for funeral and wedding cars to pull under. There will be no need for the present inside doors and so there should be a feeling of much more space as we enter the church.

Furthermore, we intend to significantly improve the inside of our building…..a fixed baptismal font, new lighting and heating, re-decoration and a certain re-ordering of the sanctuary area.
And we hope to have everything in place by 2nd February 2007.

Please look out for further details on this website and in the parish newsletter. I welcome any comments.
Fr. Kevin.
