Simon helps Jesus to carry his Cross
There is a long tradition in art when painting scenes from the life of Christ to use scenes and clothing from the artist own time.
Leonardo’s Annunciation and Stanley Spencer’s Jesus carries His cross in Cookham High Street are two examples.
I have shown Simon of Cyrene in modern clothes and a modern setting when forced to carry Jesus’ Cross so that we can more easily identify with him
when we are each forced to carry our own cross.
