Veronica
wipes the face of Jesus
Mary Lou has coupled Mary Magdalene anointing Jesus, as
He said, for His burial, with the tradition of Veronica
wiping His face, in order to show the meaning of love in
action.
We must continually practice love to truly
understand it. Maureen has tried to show,
not only what she imagines the scene was like, but also,
through the use of shapes and colours, to represent
abstract ideas.
For example, the women of Jerusalem are shown as strong
and supportive figures, despite their weeping, and
dressed in blues and greens representing strength
and hope.
She would like her paintings to cause people to ask
themselves questions as to what the various elements
could mean.
