Hello everyone
from the fab folk in the UCM!
Our membership has risen to thirty members - with
the promise of more at our January meeting.
We were asked by our Diocesan President to try
and contact one of the many parishes in the New
Orleans area hit by the hurricane Katrina.
The idea was to convey to them that they were in
our thoughts and prayers. As it turned out,
I think we were the only UCM Foundation to
undertake this task. |
We held a
Bring and Buy at one of our normal meetings and
raised £70. We were put in contact with
Trish Bond, who is Stewardship Development
Director of St Ann's Catholic Missionary Church.
We understand that Trish and her fellow workers
co-ordinate all the assistance given to the many
parishes which suffered so badly in the
hurricane. We elected to help a parish in
Biloxi - St Michael's - they were desperately in
need of chairs in order to have a Mass at
Christmas.
This appealed to us especially because we had
recently had our wonderful Jubilee Mass at St
Bernards and we thought of all the chairs that we
had! I received a lovely E-mail from Trish
when she received the money and also from a guy
called John Scott who is the man who actually
goes to St Michaels and helps the parish in
practical ways. He was SO grateful for our help
and said that this parish had lost everything in
the hurricane.
We felt so humble and so grateful for what we
have in our Parish that we approached Fr Kevin
and asked his permission to involve the Parish in
a fund-raising activity. He (lovely man
that he is!) allowed us to hold a Bring and Buy
at the 9.30 and 11 am Masses just before
Christmas when we raised just over £330.
We were overcome by the generosity of our
parishioners for their custom and their
donations.
I e-mailed Trish to say the cash was on the way
and I believe that she may be writing to our
web-site to keep us up-to-date with events in
Biloxi.
Happy New Year to everyone.
Love, Ann Budd. |
